Marie Donn Photography
A little while ago I shared a range of gorgeous images featuring my Mummy necklaces, which captured the real emotion and meaning behind them. Those images were the work of Marie Donn Photography, who offers creative family and business portraits in the Essex and surrounding regions.
Launching her business on the 1st January 2011, Marie's business is very new, but support has been overwhelming. Marie says, "It's part of my dream to not just capture smiles, but to be the source of them and the feedback as far has been incredibly positive - I'm glad that lots of people share my dream!".
Marie has persued personal photography projects for some years now; and during her last period of maternity leave took the time to gain a qualification in photography to underpin that. At the time she had no intention of starting a fully-fledged business, but the great feedback she received when undertaking portait projects for friends helped encourage her to take things further.
Marie invests heavily in her work, taking the time to research and provide the perfect stage, suggesting props and poses, and ensuring that everyone has fun, delivering image that will make you smile.
Talking about her work, Marie says "For me, I feel incredibly privileged to be asked to spend time with a customer. Time is the scarcest resource for all of us these days, and to be granted time with a family or a business, and given the responsibility of making the most of that time in terms of a positive experience for the customer is absolutely my number one aim and my greatest honour".
Product photography can be a bit sterile and this is where I've been lucky enough to experience the benefit of Marie's expertise where she took my Mummy necklaces beyond my online shop window and into a real life situation, where she was able to capture the genuine feelings of touch, sight and delight that will be experienced by the customer when they make their purchase. They say that a picture tells a thousand words and the images Marie gave me help convey the real meaning behind my Mummy necklaces.
Marie acknowledges the current financial climate, "I appreciate that photography can feel like an indulgence these days, when so many competing priorities vie for the purse strings and your time. I want to celebrate that indulgence – I want your time with me to be an indulgence, a removal from the everyday and a period where the phones are off, and there is no-one else to concentrate on but those you love".
"Sometimes it’s the first time in ages that everyone in a session has been together and focussed on being a family. Maybe I will be the first to see the whole family looking on in amazement at the little one’s first confident steps, because before then Mum or Dad had to hold the camera and couldn’t be in the frame. I’m so lucky to be asked to capture those moments". I have to say that for all our love of cameras, capturing those special moments, sometimes the viewfinder can present a barrier to actually being present in the moment, and that's where a photographer like Marie comes in, providing a rare opportunity for everyone to share a special moment, letting someone else look through the viewfinder and capture a record of that precious time.
